Cinnamon rolls are such a cozy, comforting breakfast. I love how the scent fills my house and the kids are always so excited whenever they get this special treat! Here’s how to put a festive spin on breakfast by stacking them into an adorable Cinnamon Roll Christmas tree!

Ingredients

I’m always looking for the easiest, most convenient recipes and this one takes the cake (or cinnamon roll) with just two ingredients! Here is all you need:

  • One can (12.4 ounce) of Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls with icing
  • Festive holiday sprinkles to decorate

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 400°F and large baking sheet with cooking spray. (You might need a second baking sheet to fit all of the pieces depending on the size of your baking sheet.)
  2. Separate dough into 8 rolls. Use kitchen scissors or knife to cut each roll into 4 pieces, for a total of 32 small pieces.
  3. Roll each piece into a small ball.
  4. Arrange 10 balls in a circle shape on the baking pan for the base of the tree, with 2-3 in the middle. The pieces should be clustered together and not too spread out to provide a solid, stackable base.
  5. To make each stackable layer of the tree, repeat with a formation of 8 balls in a separate circle cluster, then 6 balls, then 4, then 3, then finally a single ball. There will be a total of 6 individual clusters that will stack on top of each other after they are baked (including the single ball on the top.)
  6. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until browned. Cool on cookie sheet 2 minutes.
  7. While they are baking, transfer icing to a microwavable measuring cup. (Do not microwave the metal container the icing comes in.) Microwave uncovered on High for 10 to 15 seconds or until pourable.
  8. Use large, flat spatula to transfer the largest cluster of 10 pieces to serving platter or cake plate. Drizzle with small amount of icing to act as a glue, then top with next largest cluster of 8 pieces and drizzle with small amount of icing.
  9. Continue with remaining clusters, ending with the single ball as the topper. Drizzle remaining icing over tree.
  10. Top with sprinkles for “ornaments.”

Fun Tips

  • Tip 1: You can add food coloring to the icing to create any color you’d like.
  • Tip 2: Using a footed cake stand can imitate a tree trunk!
  • Tip 3: To make a larger Cinnamon Roll Christmas tree, use an extra packet of Cinnamon rolls and double the amount in each stack. (For example, start with 20 rolls on the bottom instead of 10, followed by 16 instead of 8, 12 instead of 6, etc.)

Can I Make This Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can cut the rolls and assemble the tree 1-2 days ahead of time. (Store in the refrigerator.) Just me sure to hold onto the extra icing for the outer drizzle decoration. It’s best to bake and assemble prior to serving so they are nice and warm and the icing adheres to the tree.

How Should I Store Leftovers?

I prefer to disassemble any leftovers and store in a Tupperware container or Ziploc bag in the refrigerator. They should stay fresh for about 2-3 days. Reheat in the microwave before serving.

Perfect Presentation Platters

This Cinnamon Roll Christmas Tree looks terrific on so many different styles! I tried it on a white cake stand and a black wooden serving board and loved both options. For more cake stands to imitate a tree trunk, you can’t go wrong with this marble and wood option or this wood choice (that would really look like a tree trunk!)

You could also use a brown wooden serving tray or this white-washed option. l also love this wooden riser from Kirkland’s or this marble serving tray from JC Penny.

A festive holiday plate like this Merry and Bright platter or this gold serving tray would also be fun!

I also get asked a lot about the checkered pattern in my kitchen, such as the Nutcracker cookie jar or teapot, which are MacKenzie Child’s pieces. If you would like to shop MacKenzie Childs, you can shop some of my favorite products here and also get 20% off by using code Leanna20.

Merry Christmas!

I hope you enjoyed this Cinnamon Roll Christmas tree as much as we did! It’s also the perfect treat for Christmas morning and will definitely be the start of a new tradition in our house. Special thanks to Pillsbury for this fun and easy recipe. Happy Holidays, friends!
