Ingredients

  • Chicken: Cook and shred boneless skinless breasts. Or use rotisserie chicken or leftover chicken for an easy shortcut.
  • Cream Cheese: For a rich, creamy, texture.
  • Ranch Seasoning: Use your favorite seasoning mix, or make your own.
  • Greek Yogurt: Cool and tangy, to lighten things up. Full fat works best.
  • Cheddar Cheese: Use sharp or extra-sharp for flavor.
  • Mozzarella Cheese: Part-skim, low-moisture works well and melts beautifully.
  • Buffalo Wing Sauce: Use your favorite brand (we’re partial to Frank’s) for that signature, spicy kick. Use a little extra if you want to bring the heat.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: Adds a little umami that goes a long way. Don’t skip this!

Expert Tips

  • Shred Your Own Cheese. Pre-shredded cheese doesn’t always melt as well, so it’s worth it.
  • Get Creative with Dippers. Almost anything goes here, truly. Crunchy and salty tortilla chips, pretzels, or crackers pair nicely. And crisp, fresh veggies like carrots, celery and cucumbers are delicious, too. If you’re up for it, make homemade pita chips or serve with grilled bread.
  • Great to use rotisserie or leftover cooked chicken breast. We’ve made it both ways to cut down on the prep time.
  • Repurpose the Leftovers. Add any leftover dip to a grilled cheese sandwich, top store-bought pizza dough with it, or stir it into your favorite mac and cheese to really take every day dishes to new flavor heights.
  • If you want an extra golden brown top, you can broil the buffalo chicken dip for a couple of minutes before serving.

Storage and Make Ahead Instructions

Store leftover dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just be sure to let it fully cool first. Reheat, covered, at 350°F until melty and bubbly.

Make this dip ahead of time and up to a day before serving, unbaked. Store in the refrigerator and when you’re ready to serve, bake per the instructions. We don’t recommend freezing the dip since it can change the texture once thawed and reheated.

FAQs

Can you use Greek yogurt instead of cream cheese in buffalo chicken dip?

Definitely. Be sure to use full-fat, plain Greek yogurt for the creamiest, smoothest texture. You could even add in blended cottage cheese to make it even creamier. Avoid using regular yogurt, it will give the dip a watery, diluted consistency.

Can I mix buffalo sauce with Greek yogurt?

Yes, you can mix buffalo sauce with full-fat Greek yogurt as a tasty, zesty base for buffalo chicken dip. Or you can simply use it as a kicked-up topping and cool garnish; dollop it onto baked potatoes, tacos or quesadillas for extra flavor.

Can you use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for dips?

Sure. Using Greek Yogurt in place of sour cream will give a dip a thicker, tangier taste and consistency. The higher fat content in the Greek yogurt, the creamier the dip will be. We actually suggest using a combination of both though, to balance out flavor and texture.
