How to Make a Simple Patriotic Berry Trifle
This Berry Trifle looks fancy but comes together so quickly for a festive dessert that’s perfect for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and more!

This can also double as a festive centerpiece!

Ingredients and Supplies
Here’s all you need for your berry trifle:
Filling Ingredients:
- 20 oz angel food cake, cut into stars and 1” cubes – I used about 2 blocks.
- 1 lb fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 lb fresh blueberries
Frosting Ingredients:
- 2 packages (8 oz each) cream cheese, softened at room temp
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
Tip: If you’re pressed for time, you can replace the frosting with two containers of Cool Whip!
Supplies:
- Small star cookie cutter (about 1-2 inches)
- Trifle Dish

A small cookie cutter on a loaf of Angel Food Cake is an easy trick to make this dessert shine!

Directions
Frosting Directions:
- Beat together 1 lb cream cheese and 3/4 cup sugar on medium speed until creamy and combined.
- With mixer on, pour in 2 cups heavy cream and continue beating on high until whipped and fluffy.
- Add 1/2 tsp vanilla and beat until incorporated.

Assembling the Berry Trifle:
- Using a small star cookie cutter, cut one of the Angel Food Cakes into stars and place around the side of the trifle dish.
- Add 1/3 of your sliced angel food cake into the bottom center of your trifle.
- Add 1/3 of your cream and loosely spread it over cake pieces.
- Add 1/2 of the sliced strawberries.
- Repeat with remaining ingredients (adding blueberries for the second fruit layer).
- Frost the top with last 1/3 of cream and decorate with star shaped strawberry.
Optional Decorations: Roll out blue or red fondant and use a star cookie cutter for the star shapes on top of the trifle! You could also do this with red or blue melting chocolate spread out on wax paper and cut with the star-shaped cookie cutters.
Tip: You can use a larger star-shaped cookie cutter to lightly make a star imprint along the top of your trifle to use as a guide for your star-shaped strawberries.

Perfect Presentation Platters
Check out the links for some of my favorite products!
Trifle Dish: My trifle dish is from Target for a great price! I also used star-shaped cookie cutters like these.
Tip: For an extra festive touch, surround your serving dish with star twinkle lights or American flag lights!
Chopping Boards: I use round wooden serving boards all the time, both for prep and serving. Some of my favorites are this white striped wooden board from Kirklands, this mango wood board from Target, this marble and wood rectangular tray from JC Penney, or this round marble and wood option from World Market. Finally, this MacKenzie Childs checkered board is a bit of an investment, but I use it all the time and also display it as decor in my kitchen.
Kitchen Links: I get asked all the time about the products in the background of my kitchen. Much of it is from MacKenzie-Childs, which I have slowly grown a collection of over the years! My favorites are this checkered chopping board, my black and white checkered teapot, and the gray and white checkered utensil holder. I also have this enamel canister that you can find in small, medium, or large.

Can I Make This Berry Trifle Ahead of Time?
Yes! You can definitely prep the Angel Food Cake stars ahead of time and even store them in a Ziploc bag. You can also wash and prep all of the fruit ahead of time as well! I’d recommend assembling the trifle within 24 hours of serving so the Angel Food Cake doesn’t get soggy.

Storing Leftovers
If you have leftovers, cover the trifle dish tightly with Saran Wrap or transfer to a Tupper Ware container and store in the refrigerator. This should stay fresh for 2-3 days!

Enjoy!
I hope this Berry Trifle is a fun and festive addition to any patriotic celebrations! Also, thank you so much to our military members and their loved ones for their service and sacrifice and for our country. We appreciate and honor you not just today, but every day.
Xoxo,
Leanna
