A great slow cooker recipe is something to always have in your back pocket for any night of the week. This Slow Cooker Honey Mustard Chicken is one of my family’s favorites and is so easy to make with just 7 simple ingredients. We’ve eaten it as a sandwich, tossed it into pasta, or had it by itself with roast veggies and potatoes.

Why You’ll Love this Recipe
- Less than 10 ingredients. There’s no need to fuss over a ton of different ingredients, with just a handful of delicious items you can have a chicken dinner that’s comforting with every bite.
- Protein-packed and healthy slow cooker meal. This honey mustard chicken is healthy and versatile to serve with all different side dishes.
- Quick clean up. This is the real reason why we love a meal made in the crock pot – we only have to clean one bowl!
Leanna’s Tip: Be sure to buy boneless, skinless chicken breasts that are a similar size and not too large. If they are the same size, then they cook at a similar rate which guarantees tender and moist chicken rather than dry and tough.
Ingredients
- Chicken breasts: The main protein, be sure to use boneless, skinless chicken for ease.
- Onion: Adds richness to the broth and chicken mixture.
- Garlic: Pairs so well with the honey mustard flavors.
- Dijon mustard: Gives tang and brightness in every bite.
- Honey: Adds a nice hint of sweetness to the sauce.
- Salted butter: Gives a creamy quality and rounds out the tanginess of the mustard.
- Worcestershire sauce: A little dash goes a long way to add nice umami.
- Dried chives: Optional, but we love to add for color and a little pop of light onion flavor.
- Coleslaw: We love to serve coleslaw on sandwiches or on the side of honey mustard chicken.
- Pickles and hamburger buns: Great for making pulled chicken sandwiches as a serving option.
How to Make Slow Cooker Honey Mustard Chicken
- Place the chicken breasts, onion, garlic, Dijon mustard, honey, butter, and Worcestershire sauce into a crockpot and cook covered for 3-4 hours on high or until the chicken is fully cooked.
- Remove the chicken, shred and place back into the sauce. Stir in a few chives for color if desired. Keep warm until ready to serve.

3. Add to burger bun, on top of salad, in tacos or eat as is!
Expert Tips
- Swap the chicken breasts for boneless, skinless thighs. If you like dark meat better, no worries, you can easily use thighs, just note that the cook time will be much shorter.
- You can use yellow mustard instead of Dijon. If yellow is your preference, it’s also delicious in this chicken.
- If you find your sauce is too thin, simply mix together 1 teaspoon cornstarch with 1 teaspoon of water and mix it into the chicken mixture.
- Add some veggies. You can stir in your favorite leafy green like spinach or baby kale if you want to serve this on it’s own with a side dish.

Storage
I prefer to keep any leftovers in an airtight container and store in the fridge, where they should stay fresh for up to 4 days. You can also use a zip top bag or cover a plate tightly with plastic wrap.
Since this is a slow cooker meal, it’s easy to make it in advance. You can cook it overnight or even all day on the busiest of weekdays. Dinner will be flavorful and ready to serve with ease thanks to this simple method.
