Ingredients

  • Pillsbury Grands Biscuits: Find these in the refrigerated section at the store — for an ultra buttery, fluffy texture with that classic pull-apart biscuit bite.
  • Ground Beef: We recommend 80/20 ground beef for juicy flavor, but leaner works if you prefer less fat.
  • Shredded Cheese: Freshly grate your own for the best flavor and texture. Cheddar is classic, but you can use Colby Jack, mozzarella, or a blend.
  • Ketchup & Mustard: Classic condiments for that signature cheeseburger flavor.
  • Cream Cheese: Creamy, tangy, and the secret ingredient to make the filling extra indulgent.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: Savory and rich, adds umami flavor and enhances the flavor of the beef.
  • Garlic Powder & Onion Powder: Aromatic seasonings to flavor the beef.
  • Egg Wash: For that shiny, golden top.
  • Sesame Seeds: Optional, to make the cheeseburger bombs look like mini burger buns.

How to Make Cheeseburger Bombs

1. Cook the beef filling – In a skillet, cook ground beef until browned and crumbly. Drain any excess grease. Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well so the flavors soak into the beef.

2. Remove from heigh and stir in cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese until the cheese is melted.
3. Prepare the biscuits – Take each Pillsbury Grands biscuit and press it flat into a circle (about 4–5 inches wide).

4. Assemble the bombs – Place a spoonful of beef mixture in the center of each square. Add a small pickle slice if you’d like.

5. Seal tightly – Gather the corners of the dough and pinch to seal. Place seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

6. Brush & top – Brush each bomb with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

7. Bake – Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 15–18 minutes, until golden brown and puffed.

8. Serve – Enjoy hot with your favorite dipping sauces like burger sauce, ranch, or spicy ketchup.

Whether you make these for your next family dinner, pack them up for a game-day spread, or send them to school in a lunchbox, Cheeseburger Bombs are guaranteed to become a repeat recipe in your home. Expert Tips

  • Cook ground beef mixture fully before filling the dough. Don’t skip this step — raw beef won’t cook through in the bake time and can release too much moisture.
  • Seal the dough tightly with no gaps. Make sure the dough is really closed, then place seam-side down so it seals naturally as it bakes.
  • Use cubes of cheese instead of shreds. This will give the bombs an extra gooey, molten center.
  • Assemble ahead of time. You can build these completely and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking for an easy make-ahead option.
  • Wrap individual baked bombs in foil before refrigerating or freezing. This will help prevent freezer burn and soggy dough.

Variations & Substitutions

  • Bacon Cheeseburger Bombs: Stir in crumbled bacon or wrap each bomb in a slice before baking for extra smokey flavor and texture. A classic burger flavor combo.
  • BBQ Cheeseburger Bombs: Mix a spoonful of BBQ sauce into the beef and serve with extra on the side for dipping.
  • Tex-Mex Twist: Add taco seasoning to the beef mixture, swap cheddar for Monterey Jack, and serve with salsa or queso for a zesty twist.
  • Mushroom & Swiss: Another classic burger flavor combo — sauté mushrooms with the beef and use Swiss cheese for an elevated version.
  • Make Veggie Bombs: Use plant-based ground “meat” or sautéed mushrooms, onions, and peppers for a vegetarian burger bomb.

Storage

Cheeseburger Bombs will keep at room temperature for around 2 hours if you’re serving them at a party, otherwise store leftovers in an airtight container or wrapped in foil in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Freeze completely cooled bombs on a tray until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, air fryer at 350°F for 4-5 minutes, or microwave in 20-30 second intervals (softest option). Bake straight from frozen, adding 5-7 extra minutes in the oven or about 8 minutes in the air fryer.

This is a great make-ahead recipe — assemble them completely, cover with plastic or foil, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. When ready to serve, brush on the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds before baking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best dipping sauce for cheeseburger bombs?

These pair well with almost any sauce. For a classic burger flavor, serve with ketchup, mustard, or burger sauce (a blend of mayo, ketchup, mustard, and relish). If you like a little spice, try sriracha mayo, spicy ketchup, or jalapeño ranch. For parties, set up a mini sauce bar with options like BBQ, ranch, queso dip, and honey mustard so guests can choose their favorites.

Can I air fry cheeseburger bombs instead of baking them?

Yes! Air frying gives them a golden, crisp exterior. Place the sealed bombs in the air fryer basket (don’t overcrowd), and cook at 375°F for 10–12 minutes. They’ll come out perfectly cooked with melty cheese inside. The air fryer method is especially great when reheating leftovers.

Do I need to cook the beef before filling the bombs?

Yes, you should always cook the ground beef mixture before filling the dough. Raw beef won’t have enough time to cook through while the dough is baking, and may release too much moisture. Sautéing it first with onion, garlic powder, and condiments locks in that rich cheeseburger flavor and prevents soggy bombs.

What kind of cheese works best in cheeseburger bombs?

Cheddar melts well and has bold flavor, but swap in mozzarella for extra stretch, pepper jack for spice, or even Velveeta or American cheese for a creamy, nostalgic fast-food cheeseburger flavor. The key is to use cubes of cheese instead of shreds so each bomb has a gooey, molten center.

Can I make these vegetarian?

Yes, you can make delicious vegetarian cheeseburger bombs by swapping the ground beef for plant-based ground “meat” or by using sautéed mushrooms, onions, and peppers. Add cheese and a drizzle of burger sauce for all the indulgent flavor without the meat.

How do I keep cheeseburger bombs from falling apart?

The trick is in the seal. After placing the filling on your Pillsbury Grands Biscuits, pull the corners together and pinch tightly, making sure there are no gaps. Place them seam-side down on the baking sheet so the dough seals naturally as it bakes. Brushing with egg wash also helps the dough stay together and bake evenly.

  1. I made this tonight but used two cans of crescents rolls since I didn’t have biscuits. I put one on the bottom and one on top but followed the recipe the same and it was really good! My kids ate it and they typically then their nose on casseroles 😆 I also made a Big Mac sauce that paired really well with it. I would recommend pinning a link to sauce recipe suggestions on your blog post, Leanna, to make it easier for users. But I think this will start going on rotation!
