How to Create Beautiful Fall Decor on A Budget
Integrating cozy, gorgeous fall decor into your home doesn’t have to be costly, stressful, or overwhelming. These decor tips can serve as a beautiful backdrop from August-November while layering well with Halloween or Thanksgiving decor that you’d like to sprinkle in.
Throughout this post, I’ve linked my favorite products to help you locate your favorite items at great prices!
Classic furniture pieces, reusable decor, and baskets that double as storage help to create a cozy space that is also functional without breaking the bank.
1. Incorporate Autumn Hues
I absolutely love the natural color scheme of autumn, with dazzling marigold, apricot, and crimson shades. Much of my house has a neutral color palette, so I love to tie in splashes of color wherever I can.
Some of my favorite colorful accessories that I reuse each year include floral or leaf stems, wall art, and faux mini pumpkins.
I also layer in warm accents like wooden stands and copper accents. This tableau can be used anywhere throughout the home, such as a countertop, powder bath, or coffee table.
Finally, wreaths are such a beautiful accessory to tie in. You can add any accent ribbon and hang mini wreaths just about anywhere, such as in front of windows, over chair backs, or vent hoods.

2. Throw In Throw Blankets
After a scorching hot summer here in Texas, I dream of refreshing “sweata weatha” and curling up under a cozy blanket!
A soft blanket, either made out of chunky knit wool or a plush throw material is one of my favorite things to bring out when the seasons change. These can be draped over armchairs, ottomans, or couches to create an inviting space to curl up with a good book, cup of coffee, or glass of wine.
Additionally, seasonal pillows can instantly transform a space! You can also just swap out the pillow covers for each season to make the same impact while saving space and money.
You can also add blankets to entryways or even dining room chairs for an unexpected, softer touch over wooden furniture.

3. Create a Fall Tablescape
I have three little kids, so any tips I share also need to be functional in addition to appealing to look at. Whether you have a formal dining room or a kitchen table, you can give it an Autumn makeover simply by adding placemats, tweaking an existing centerpiece, or adding candles (whether they be real or battery-operated.)
You also don’t need to create an elaborate tablescape for your fall decor. Woven placemats are so versatile for either a casual table or formal dining room. You can find similar woven placemats at JCPenney, Pottery Barn, or Walmart!
I loved this sunny look in my dining room a couple of years ago. Who knew that orange slices could look so elegant? You can find my tips for creating those here!
Those little mini pumpkins can be found at most craft stores and even at the dollar store! I also love the look of a vintage book layered over a plate. I like to get these at antique shops, used book stores, or garage sales.
Garlands or greenery also had a beautiful pop of color on a table, especially when topped with pumpkins for fall.

4. Check Out a Variety of Places for Fall Decor
Fun fact: I once had an Etsy shop for hand-made signs! While I don’t do that anymore, supporting small businesses always has a place in my heart.
Sometimes I can get in a rut of just ordering on Amazon as a matter of convenience, which there is certainly nothing wrong with! I just always find it refreshing to check out other avenues like Etsy, antique shops, or local boutiques.
I promised myself I wouldn’t buy any more signs from Etsy! But looking at these has me itching to add to my collection. 😉
For another unexpected touch, I also love the impact that the dark-colored wall makes while still providing a neutral pallet. Emerald greens, navy blues, and gray tones are some of my other favorite accent wall looks!

5. Choose Items That Function in Your Home
There are so many beautiful home decor accounts right at our fingertips, and sometimes I feel like I “should” be following this or that design trend. But trends come and go, and the reality is that I have three young children and I don’t want them to feel like they are living in a priceless museum where they can never run around or make a mess by just being kids.
Tables with extra storage, entryway benches to take off shoes or hang up backpacks, and pillowcases that are easily washable are a must for me! (Because usually the pillows end up on the floor with some variation of Floor Is Lava.)
Sure, a perfectly-white Pottery Barn couch may look amazing, but it would be destroyed by little fingerprints or doghair after the first week. In this season of life, I need pieces that aren’t overly expensive, can get messy, but still look nice to add a touch of elegance to my home (mixed in with Spiderman toys. It’s called balance.) 🙂
Woven or wicker baskets have so many uses, such as holding blankets, faux pumpkins, and flowers. (Or kid toys that I usually hastily throw in before company arrives!) 🙂
